Hardware resources

Desktops and laptops, managed centrally or individually, tablets, smart phones and in general any device that supports Ethernet or WiFi 801.b/g/n can be connected on the different networks present at FBK. The centralized printing service allows users to print from all the networks on over a hundred of printers located throughout FBK.

What should I do for issues concerning phones or copiers?

Please contact the office dealing with technical support, i.e. the ufficio tecnico ( ).

How do I print from my computer?

*Windows XP/Vista computers*
Open the web page at http://print.fbk.eu/printers [1].
Select a printer and click on Connect.
If installation fails: reopen the web page at http://print.fbk.eu/printers
[2], select the printer and click on Properties, then copy the URL in Network
Name.
Open the printers folder, add a network printer that is not listed,
paste the previously copied URL to the address field, , install the right driver when
requested.
Supported browser: Internet Explorer.

*Linux computers*
Open the web page at http://print.fbk.eu/printers [3].
Select a printer and click on Properties, then copy the URL in Network Name.
Install a new IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) printer and paste the
previously copied URL to the address field.

*Mac OS X computers*
Install
CUPS from the MacOSX DVD. Open the web page at
http://print.fbk.eu/printers. Select a printer and click on Properties,
then copy the URL found in Network Name. Open a new web page at
http://localhost:631, select Administration panel then click on Add Printer,
choose the Internet Printing
Protocol (http) and click Continue, paste the previously copied URL into the
connection field and press Continue, insert a name and select the right PPD
(If you do not have the PPD file and the printer does not appear in the list
you can try to find the PPD file here [4]). The printer then should appear in
System
Preferences/Printers and Faxes.

Known issue with Mac OSX print queue :
If the documents remain in your local queue and the printer changes the state
to "PAUSE", please modify the following default option in your local CUPS
configuration :
from Printer tab ,select the printer, pull down the "Administration" menu
Set Default Options - Policies - Error Policy 
and choose  "abort-job"

How and where can I print posters?

A large size printer (up to A0) called BigPlot is located on the second floor
of the North Building at the Povo site.
Prints can only be executed from the dedicated computer located near the
plotter. The software available is
Adobe Acrobat (PDF documents are strongly recommended) and Microsoft Office
on Windows Vista.
